Job Placement Coordinator
CAMPUS: Chesapeake
SUMMARY:
  Tidewater Community College invites applications for two new full-time, grant-funded positions. The Job Placement Coordinator at Tidewater Community College is responsible for working with the adult career coach to connect adult students enrolled in allied health or other identified career and technical programs to agencies, employers, and groups in the region’s workforce development system. The job placement coordinator works individually and in small groups with referred participants to provide services for job preparation and placement. As needed, coordinators will conduct workshops to prepare clients for the worksite and conduct group sessions to reflect on initial workplace experiences. The coordinator will be expected to build relationships with employers and their Human Resources departments or other individuals responsible for hiring so as to effectively connect participants to available jobs. Co-located at two TCC campuses, this position is funded by a three year grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Work individually and in small groups to provide job preparation and placement skills including: guidance in the job search process, employability skills coaching, connections with relevant employers, and assistance with preparing applications, resumes, interviews, and other steps in the job placement process.
2. Conduct workshops to prepare clients for entering the workforce.
3. Work in collaboration with the Virginia Employment Commission to share knowledge of labor market trends and opportunities and specific needs of area employers for high demand occupations to assist students in their choice of careers.
4. Assist students with goal setting, development of an action plan, and implementation of an action plan using strong interpersonal skills that engage, support, and motivate students.
5. Network with state and local support services and assist students with access to these resources.
6. Provide well-written reports to the college and the VCCS, using appropriate data, as requested.
7. Facilitate equitable resolutions to student issues with efficiency and exceptional problem solving skills.
8. Collaborate with the One Stop System to ensure connections with adult students who meet the criteria to access grant services.
9. Ability to incorporate specific needs of area employers in the career counseling with students.
10. Ability to build networks and obtain cooperation from a variety of partners, including business and industry and entities operating within Virginia’s Workforce Network.
11. In cooperation with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, access a variety of data necessary for reports.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Master’s degree in counseling, adult education, or other related degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
2. Demonstrated ability to facilitate and coach group sessions or counsel adult students on career exploration.
3. Ability to collaborate with student services professionals on each campus to ensure that students receive appropriate support services.
4. Proven ability to work as a team player, appropriately exhibiting a positive attitude and sense of humor.
5. Ability to make oral and written presentations, to organize and analyze, and to negotiate and communicate effectively while establishing cooperative working relationships with a diverse array of individuals contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
6. Ability to interpret college policies and procedures and to resolve issues, resulting in mutual respect and tolerance for varying points of view.
7. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office and social media.
8. Ability to work days, evenings, and/or weekend, as needed, and provide transportation between campuses and throughout the community.
9. Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, support, and motivate students, as well as to engage business partners effectively.
10. Knowledge of training and coaching strategies effective to strengthening the “soft” skills of participants.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Working knowledge of workforce development system structure, operations, and linkages between required partners.
2. Experience in working at a community college or other institution of higher education.
3. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive mission of the community college.

SALARY:
  The College offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. FUNDING STATUS: This is a grant-funded position.
