A new position at Tidewater Community College within a new organization, the Coordinator of eLearning Support is a key leader within the Center for eLearning, demonstrating advanced knowledge in the innovative support of technology for eLearning and highly developed interpersonal skills.
Reporting to the Dean of eLearning, the Coordinator of eLearning Support provides sound operational management and strong analytical, administrative, and technical leadership to ensure highly effective support services for the college’s eLearning courses and curricula.
The Coordinator of eLearning Support leads a highly skilled team of technical specialists committed to customer service and team-oriented problem resolution and oversees the technical and functional quality of eLearning, ensuring the use of best practices in support of teaching and learning goals. |
| FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: |

1. Ensures that faculty and staff are provided instructional technology support including development, implementation, training, and evaluation that ensures performance and quality of the eLearning product.
2. Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of a team of technical specialists to include the Blackboard Administrator, Webmaster, and Help Desk Technicians.
3. Assigns special projects as needed and reviews project outcomes for completeness and effectiveness.
4. Ensures the learning management system, Center’s webpages, and end-user support services are effectively administered and supported.
5. Oversees the development of creative eLearning solutions using best practices methodology and industry standard tools and software. Ensures the development of the appropriate technical documentation, security, and version control.
6. Advises the Dean of eLearning and regularly participates in academic planning as it relates to the support of learning technology.
7. Develops, coordinates, and promotes an eLearning professional development program for the college community that incorporates one-on-one consultations with appropriate technology support team members, as well as workshops, training sessions, manuals, web-based modules, and guidelines for the use of learning technologies.
8. Develops tools and assessment strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of training courses and development processes.
9. Manages the workflow of staff and communicates regularly with the Dean of eLearning regarding status of eLearning support projects.
10. Participates in appropriate professional development opportunities such as eLearning conferences to increase level of knowledge in the innovative and effective use of learning technology support. Researches and disseminates best practices for emerging technologies.
11. Ensures that all support initiatives comply with policies of the college, the Virginia Community College System, the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and program/specialized accrediting agencies.
12. Carries out the hiring process for staff as delineated by college policy and practice.
13. Fosters an environment that encourages staff to take initiative and to pursue innovative strategies for eLearning support.
14. Promotes the professional development and renewal of staff.
15. Facilitates the equitable resolutions of all personnel-related issues.
16. Supervises staff to ensure expectations are clear, well communicated, and relate to the goals and objectives of the Center for eLearning.
17. Ensures all requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation.
18. Collaborates with other college departments, including Learning Technology Applications and Information Systems, for the acquisition, delivery, and use of instructional technology support resources.
19. Represents the college and liaises with appropriate Virginia Community College System technology support groups.
20. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Dean of eLearning. |
| REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: |
| |
1. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and prioritize a varied and challenging workflow of development and support tasks in an educational environment, preferably higher education.
2. Demonstrated ability to supervise and evaluate a diverse staff of technical specialists.
3. Excellent skills in critical thinking, analysis, and problem resolution.
4. Ability to present complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
5. Experience with technology support services and demonstrated knowledge of a broad range of pedagogical issues relative to educational technology support services.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of current issues surrounding educational systems and data management selection and use of software products.
7. Experience leading and directing the development of eLearning materials that support delivery of diverse training topics.
8. Demonstrated competence with Blackboard or other learning management system. Experience as an online teacher or learner in higher education preferred.
9. Ability to interpret and apply Virginia Community College System (VCCS), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and college policies and procedures as they relate to student services and faculty support.
10. Proficiency in a Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office environment. Competence with Adobe, Web 2.0 learning technologies, mobile applications, and social media preferred.
11. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate and interact successfully with diverse constituencies and to work effectively in a collaborative, collegial environment. Professional experience working directly with faculty and staff at the college/university level in the development, implementation, and support of teaching with technology.
12. Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with an emphasis in Educational Technology, Instructional Technology, or other closely related field. |
