A new position at Tidewater Community College within a new organization, the Faculty Liaison is a member of the Center for eLearning team charged with positioning the College as an academic leader and model of eLearning course delivery among the nation’s institutions of higher education. The team is responsible for creating and sustaining an eLearning environment that meets the highest expectations for effective teaching and successful learning through a quality assurance program that leads to student success. To that end, the Faculty Liaison will develop, implement, and coordinate a plan that incorporates best practices to ensure support to faculty in achieving excellence in eLearning course and curricula delivery.
Reporting to the Dean of eLearning, the Faculty Liaison will demonstrate highly effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with faculty, academic deans, and others in the college community to strengthen the quality of teaching in the eLearning environment. |
| FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: |
| |
1. Refines, coordinates, and evaluates the college’s plan to train, certify, and approve faculty for teaching via eLearning in collaboration with the Dean of eLearning.
2. Working collaboratively with faculty, develops, implements, and manages a robust peer review process for eLearning courses and curricula.
3. Develops, implements, and manages an effective faculty mentoring program.
4. Monitors and assesses the effectiveness of teaching via eLearning; develops and implements procedures, performance expectations, and methods to upgrade and improve the quality and delivery of courses and programs delivered via eLearning.
5. Manages data collection from such sources as Quality Matters reports and internal training programs to assure documentation of certification for teaching via eLearning is current and accurate.
6. Works collaboratively with the Dean of eLearning and academic deans to ensure faculty move appropriately through the training continuum.
7. Communicates regularly with the Dean of eLearning regarding day-to-day instructional and faculty certification issues.
8. Works with faculty and academic administrators to implement support mechanisms that assure faculty and staff meet quality standards.
9. Ensures program and institutional compliance with regional and program accreditation standards and criteria for eLearning.
10. Advises the Dean of eLearning and regularly participates in academic planning as it relates to the application of standards for eLearning.
11. Researches and regularly updates team members within the Center for eLearning on emerging best practices that assure excellence in eLearning.
12. Participates in appropriate professional development opportunities such as eLearning conferences to increase level of knowledge in establishing and maintaining standards of excellence in eLearning.
13. Plans and promotes appropriate meetings, workshops, and conferences to share initiatives of the college's eLearning community.
14. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Dean of eLearning. |
| REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: |
| |
1. Demonstrated record of exceptional academic achievement in the classroom.
2. Demonstrated success teaching online or by other distance learning technology in a college or university setting.
3. Knowledge of current regional and program accreditation standards and criteria impacting eLearning.
4. Demonstrated competence with Blackboard or other learning management system. Competence with Web 2.0 learning technologies, mobile applications, and social media preferred.
5. Understanding of best practices in assuring quality of courses and curricula delivered via eLearning.
6. Technical aptitude and ability to learn technology quickly to stay abreast of current eLearning education trends.
7. Fluency in a Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office environment.
8. Completion of the Quality Matters sequence of courses leading to Peer Reviewer status. Experience as a Peer Reviewer preferred.
9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
10. Ability to communicate and interact successfully with diverse constituencies and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, collegial environment.
11. Ability to develop and enhance faculty knowledge, skills, and ability in delivering instruction at a distance with new and emerging technologies. Demonstrated experience working in a leadership capacity with faculty in a community college, such as lead faculty or discipline head, preferred.
12. Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. |
