TITLE:
Financial Services Specialist I (Accounts Payable Accountant)
CAMPUS: Norfolk
SUMMARY:
  This position will provide superior customer service to the college community while acting act as the liaison for the Accounts Payable Department, ensuring compliance of financial data and auditing, reviewing, and approving monthly small purchase charge card statements.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  The Accounts Payable Accountant will serve as the Travel Reimbursement Coordinator and the alternate Program Administrator (PA) for the Travel Card. Research and analyze customer inquiries and respond timely. Reviews daily reports and files for payment accuracy. Supports the Accounts Payable Supervisor with payment certifications and special projects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. Advanced knowledge of accounts payable practices and progressively responsible experience in accounts payable. Demonstrated ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate data. Demonstrated ability to analyze fiscal transactions for conformity to established procedures and regulations. Working knowledge and application of Microsoft Office Suite to include word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Demonstrated knowledge of audit practices and requirements. Ability to make sound decisions. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Ability to understand and apply a chart of accounts coding structure. Interpersonal skills and effective written and oral communication skills in order to communicate in a diplomatic and courteous manner with management, staff, external regulatory agencies, and customers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. Working knowledge of Commonwealth Accounting Policy and Procedures (CAPP) manual policies, Commonwealth Accounting and Reporting System (CARS), Oracle AIS (PeopleSoft), or other governmental accounting systems. Demonstrated ability in team leadership and/or supervisory experience.
HOURS:
  8:30AM – 5:00PM.
SALARY:
  Commensurate with qualifications. Position is in Pay Band four. The College offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.
