The position will provide career and academic advising and information regarding admission and registration procedures to new and continuing School of Retail students in individual and group settings, on and off campus. |
| FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Program Advisor will plan and implement orientation programs and information workshops. Coordinate establishment and placement of students in internships. Ensure that students understand career opportunities and academic paths within the field of retail. |
| REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: |
| |
Ability to provide career and academic advising to students in a higher education setting. Ability to assist students with issues that may impact retention and academic success. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and make high quality oral and written presentations to a diverse public. Demonstrated customer relations skills. Demonstrated understanding of and belief in the mission of a comprehensive community college. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and promote teamwork with faculty, staff and administrators in a student-centered environment. Proficiency using PC-based word processing software, e-mail, database, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint. Ability to perform a broad range of activities and manage multiple projects concurrently. Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively as a team member. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines with little or no supervision. Ability to organize special programs and events. Ability to develop, collect, interpret, analyze, and manage data. Ability to interpret and apply Virginia Community College System (VCCS), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and college policies and procedures as they relate to student services and faculty support. Travel throughout Hampton Roads. |
| PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: |
| |
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in student personnel, counseling, business, marketing, or related field provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and experience. Experience working with the public in an educational setting and/or experience in the retail industry. Understanding of business and marketing. Knowledge of Administrative and Student Information Systems. Knowledge of and experience in business and/or the retail industry. Experience teaching and/or advising in a higher education setting. |

8:30AM – 5:00PM, to include the required ability to work varied hours and to work on various campuses. |

Commensurate with qualifications. Position is in Pay Band five. The College offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. |
