TITLE:
Administrative and Office Specialist III (Financial Aid Verification Communications Specialist – 3 Positions)
CAMPUS: District Administration
SUMMARY:
  Tidewater Community College seeks candidates for three (3) new Financial Aid Verification Communication Specialist positions. These positions are restricted, contingent upon funding and programmatic needs. The purpose of TCC’s Central Financial Aid Processing Office is to perform back-office processes associated with the various steps involved in the awarding of financial aid to students. The Central Financial Aid Processing Office supports colleges within the Virginia Community College System by performing these functions in a timely and effective manner so that they may focus their time and resources on counseling and assisting students with the financial aid process and enhance their individualized service to students.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  The Financial Aid Verification Communications Specialist will complete functions associated with the process for completing required verification of student information reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to ensure proper awards are made in a timely manner. Works collaboratively with the Verification Specialists to determine follow-up information needed to complete verification review. Initiates follow-up communication if additional information is needed and notes the request in the Student Information System (SIS). Sends reminder notifications if a timely response is not received. Maintains database of follow-up communications sent for tracking and reporting purposes. Works with colleges to resolve issues of missing or incorrect information. Performs supportive level duties to maintain office structure and continual flow of work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Knowledge of Federal and State educational financial aid programs, including most recent rules and regulations issued by the Department of Education. Knowledge of and ability to work with general accounting procedures. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high volume deadline driven environment. Ability to evaluate student financial aid applications for compliance with federal rules and regulations. Ability to interpret Student Aid Reports and other information to conduct needs analysis. Ability to problem solve, work accurately with details, and organize data and work. Ability to accurately key data into student information system and reconcile data with computer printouts. Ability to create documents using word processing software in a Windows environment. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally. Ability to work independently and as a team to achieve team goals. Experience with data entry and database management. Experience with operation of computer, facsimile, 10-key calculator, and copier machine.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Training in needs analysis and federal financial aid regulations.
HOURS:
  8:00AM - 4:30PM.
SALARY:
  Commensurate with qualifications. Position is in Pay Band Three. The college offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. FUNDING STATUS: These positions are restricted, contingent upon funding and programmatic needs.
