The equipment repair technician, in a support capacity, repairs, maintains and ensures inspection compliance on variations of automotive, construction and fleet equipment, to ensure safe operation when needed by college personnel. |
| FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages an automotive and construction equipment maintenance facility that is responsible for the repair and maintenance of approximately 43 varieties of mechanical equipment. Equipment includes trucks, garden tractors, lifting equipment, generators, riding and push lawn mowers, pumps, weed eaters, chain saws and other small engine units and other small motorized tools. Ensures state vehicle safety inspections are maintained and kept up to date on a monthly basis. This position is designated as essential; the employee filling this position may be required to report to work or otherwise fulfill the responsibilities of the position in the event of a college/campus closure due to weather or other emergent condition(s). |
| REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: |
| |
Considerable experience in an automotive, truck, or equipment repair shop; knowledge of Virginia state inspection policies and procedures; basic knowledge of inventory control; ability to operate all equipment, vehicles (manual/automatic), and common tools, including gas and arc welding equipment; ability to follow instructions and directives in repair manuals. Valid driver’s license. National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. Air Conditioning Refrigerant Recovery certification. |
| PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: |

Trade school or formal training in vehicle or small engine repair; experience as an unsupervised mechanic; knowledge of and experience within a local, state, or federal motor pool; commercial driver’s license (CDL). |

Commensurate with qualifications. Position is in Pay Band 3. The college offers a competitive salary and an excellent comprehensive benefits package. |
