TITLE:
Media Specialist III (Web and Graphic Specialist)
CAMPUS: District Administration
SUMMARY:
  This position’s purpose is to design and maintain web sites, provide graphic design for multimedia, and communications for eLearning and Learning Technology Applications.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  The Web and Graphic Specialist will provide services and support to faculty for web pages, web content, multimedia graphics, motion graphics, and ePortfolio design and maintenance. This position will also research, identify, evaluate, and recommend innovative emerging technologies that support teaching and learning in both traditional and eLearning modes of delivery.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Expert level skill in designing, creating, and maintaining an organizational web site. Ability to design and implement web-based content, faculty web pages and ePortfolios. Ability to create web-based communications such as newsletters and event notices. Ability to develop digital graphics, motion graphics and 3D images. Substantial knowledge of desktop computers, operating systems, desktop publications software, and social media applications. Knowledge of multiple web browsers, including various releases of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Firefox. Substantial knowledge of web design principles related to global standards and accessibility. Knowledge of best practices and trends in interactive marketing web site functionality and design, and global image and branding. Ability to interpret and apply Virginia Community College System (VCCS), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and College policies and procedures as they relate to web and student services and faculty support. Knowledge of federal and state access laws (e.g., ADA, Section 508, and other applicable accessibility standards) and intellectual property issues. Ability to collect data, create reports, and prepare written communication with organizational skills, and attention to detail, and accuracy. Ability to design, and implement training sessions. Ability to communicate effectively, and interact successfully with diverse constituencies in a collaborative, collegial environment. Ability to communicate technical information to an audience with varying degrees of technical competence. Ability to work independently and as part of an instructional and promotional development team. Ability to apply problem-solving skills in a deadline-driven environment; skills in writing and editing. Ability to research, identify, and evaluate emerging learning technologies. Ability to pilot and recommend learning technologies for use in online hybrid, and traditional classroom environments. Ability to train faculty and staff in the use and implementation of new learning technologies. Professional experience in multimedia and web/graphic design, desktop publishing applications, development of web-based or online instructional content using universal design, and integration of social media applications. Professional experience with dynamic XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Macromedia Flash, and of Dreamweaver. Professional experience creating and maintaining an organizational web site. Experience in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and Mac environments. Experience with professional email applications and with learning management systems such as Blackboard, Moodle, or Angel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Bachelor’s degree in web development, multimedia instructional design, instructional technology, computer science or closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and experience. Experience maintaining a web site in an institution of higher education. Formal training with digital imaging and illustration software, multimedia and web/graphic design, desktop publishing applications, development of web-based or online instructional content using universal design and integration of social media applications.
HOURS:
  8:30AM – 5:00PM.
SALARY:
  Commensurate with qualifications; position is in Pay Band four. The college offers a competitive salary and an excellent comprehensive benefits package.
