TITLE:
Information Technology Specialist I (WAN Support Specialist)
CAMPUS: District Administration
SUMMARY:
  The WAN support specialist, in a fast paced team environment, under the direct supervision of senior administrators, performs a variety of entry level systems support tasks, including user account maintenance, email administration, regular system maintenance, installation of system-wide software, maintenance of systems documentation, and routine systems monitoring and maintenance on a variety of other enterprise and specialized systems.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  Primary duties and responsibilities include monitoring electronic systems processes, maintaining data integrity, and providing prompt, complete and responsive support to Information Systems problems, questions, and issues encountered by college students, faculty, and staff. Follows established procedures in answering calls from users/customers of the college and satellite campuses. Additionally, incumbent answers calls to the network administration helpline promptly, and strives to resolve problems over the phone with the customer as quickly and efficiently as possible; serious technical problems require escalation of such to senior administrators. Anticipates customer needs, takes appropriate action by utilizing analytical and problem-solving techniques in determining the root cause of all problems and provides updated feedback to customers on the status of their unresolved issues; assists with documentation of present and future implementations of Microsoft Active Directory Services.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Knowledge of Microsoft, Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010 or higher and supporting applications including Outlook, and Microsoft Office Suite integrations. Knowledge of personal computers, operating systems, peripheral devices and desktop computer applications, including Windows 7, Microsoft Office Suite 2007/2010, and Outlook 2007/2010. Basic knowledge of Telecommunications Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and its application in a large LAN/WAN environment Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2003/2008 Server operating systems and supporting client-server applications in a TCP/IP environment. Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot Windows XP/7 workstation and client applications in a complex LAN/WAN environment. Ability to install, configure, and support electronic messaging applications and clients for a large campus. Ability to handle multiple, complex tasks simultaneously while meeting day-to-day needs and periodic deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills sufficient to interact with a variety of end users and other technical staff. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with those contacted in the course of a work assignment and to participate as a member of a cross-departmental project team. Ability to work under pressure; meet inflexible deadlines; deal with difficult situations while maintaining composure. Experience installing and troubleshooting PC, Macintosh computers and peripheral devices.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Working knowledge of the Internet, web server administration, and web-related technologies, such as web-based SQL database access and administration or programming with HTML, Java Script, or ActiveX. Working knowledge in Server/Storage systems designs and hands-on experience in supporting highly available network infrastructure in a fast paced large scale environment. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Network Plus Certification, or equivalent demonstrated experience performing user administration printer setup, and network client configuration. Experience in the administration and support of Windows 2003/2008 and associated applications in a large campus WAN/LAN environment. Experience installing, configuring and supporting server hardware and server OS software. Experience installing, configuring and supporting web servers and web-enabled applications, including SQL databases access and administration. Experience installing, configuring and maintain Microsoft OS, Data shares, MSSQL, Exchange, or IIS web servers in an Microsoft environment. Extensive experience in the administration and support of Microsoft and associated Microsoft applications in a large campus WAN/LAN environment. Formal training in the administration of Microsoft Server.
HOURS:
  Rotating Shifts: 8:30AM to 5:00PM and 7:30AM to 4:00PM.
SALARY:
  Commensurate with qualifications. Position is in Pay Band four. The college offers a competitive salary and an excellent comprehensive benefits package.
