The college anticipates filling this full-time, 9-month teaching faculty position, contingent upon availability of funding. This position will be based at the Norfolk Campus and the selected candidate will serve as the Program Head, responsible for developing and implementing a Practical Nursing program under the direction of the Dean of the Beazley School of Nursing.
Currently designated a 9-month teaching faculty position, the position is subject to reclassification to a 12-month teaching faculty position should the need exist. The Program Head designation may be reassigned or terminated, if warranted. While faculty positions are based at a particular campus, they may be assigned to teach at various sites, including other campuses, as well as online or via other technology-delivered distance learning methodologies. Should the need be justified, faculty are subject to reassignment to another campus.

| FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The major emphasis is on teaching and inspiring students to learn practical nursing by working in the classroom, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities to develop the students’ interests and abilities to the fullest capacity. Faculty responsibilities also include office hours, committee work, student activities, community activities, student advising, and professional activities. Responsibilities may include work during the day and/or evening programs of the college, as well as its distance learning programs.
While serving as Program Head, the faculty member may be released from some or all teaching and associated responsibilities to focus on developing and managing the college’s Practical Nursing program. As Program Head, the faculty member will develop and implement a Practical Nursing curriculum that meets the needs of the community and is in accordance with all state and national regulations. The program must also meet the standards for accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. (NLNAC).
Additionally, while serving as Program Head, the faculty member will serve as the contact person for the academic program, coordinate textbook selection, coordinate the development of instructional materials, coordinate the development of course outlines, prepare the semester course schedule, assist in the recruitment and selection of adjunct faculty, provide academic advising to new and continuing students, and assist the Dean in preparation of applicable accreditation reports and assessments.
In the Program Head role, the faculty member will be responsible for collaborating with the community in South Hampton Roads, including school systems, hospitals, and other health care facilities, in order to develop a Practical Nursing program that responds to the medical care needs of the region. The faculty member will develop a program that will serve as a transitional step for students interested in continuing their education by completing an associate degree in nursing at the Beazley School of Nursing at Tidewater Community College.

| REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: |

1. Master’s degree in nursing with a minimum of three years of full-time clinical nursing experience.
2. A current Registered Nurse license in good standing to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development and instructional methods.
4. Demonstrated ability to develop and assess student learning outcomes.
5. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with medical facilities and school systems in the Hampton Roads Community.
6. Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills and effective communication skills.
7. Demonstrated knowledge related to nursing accreditation, certification and licensure requirements.
8. Demonstrated time management and organization abilities.

| PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: |
| |
1. Previous experience in curriculum development of a Practical Nursing program.
2. Didactic and clinical experience in a Practical Nursing and/or Associate Degree Nursing program.
3. Recent clinical experience in an acute care facility
4. Experience applying innovative technology applications to teaching and learning.
5. Knowledge of, and experience with, proven teaching strategies that promote student success. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (oral and written communication).
6. Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources. |
