TITLE:
Public Relations/Marketing Specialist I (Event Coordinator)
CAMPUS: Norfolk
SUMMARY:
  This part-time position will assist with operation of the campus Student Center Events Management Department.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  The Event Coordinator will coordinate events and meetings for faculty, staff, and students. Plans and directs all aspects of assigned events including facilities acquisitions, room set-up, security, parking, dining, and audio visual needs. Distributes and monitors student/event checklists. Develop a positive connection with colleagues, supervisor’s college administrators, internal and external customers. Provides reliable and punctual service to a diverse clientele, to include students, staff, and other professionals. Represents the Student Center in a professional and collaborative manner ensuring to maintain a friendly, competent atmosphere.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Experience with event planning, to include room reservations and event set-up. Ability to provide superior customer service and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with volunteers, college staff, professionals, alumni prospects, and the general public. Ability to work independently and take initiative, providing a positive, professional attitude. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in conjunction with superior customer service. Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures. Ability to assist with special projects, follow instructions, and meet deadlines. Knowledge of effective customer service and problem solving techniques. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and corporate time calendar systems. Ability to provide outstanding organizational skills, multi-task, set priorities and deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems independently and perform duties with changing priorities and under hectic circumstances.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Prior customer service, preferably in a higher education setting. Experience with supervising event management. Associate Degree or certificate in communication, hospitality/event management, or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
HOURS:
  10:00AM to 6:00PM, with the ability to work flexible hours to include morning, nights, and weekends, as needed.
SALARY:
  $11.00 per hour. This is a part-time, 30 hours per week position.
